Fittings

Fittings and accessories may be insulated using several different methods, including:

Factory insulation of the fitting or accessory, leaving only straight pipe joints to be insulated in the field.

Fittings with tangents may be factory pre-insulated; this method is often used to insulate steel and polyethylene fittings. The pre-insulated fitting is welded or butt fused into place leaving only tangent insulation joints to be completed in the field. Bell by bell fittings may also be factory insulated; once assembled, only the insulation seam remains to be protected by joint tape or a wrap around heat shrink sleeve.

Field insulated with polymer coated insulation kits.

This is the most popular method of insulating all fittings other than those that need to be thrust blocked. All insulation kits are custom fabricated and adaptable to all types of fittings and all types of core pipes. Extension legs are provided to automatically insulate the cut-back area on the pre-insulated pipe after the butt fusion, welding or coupling operation has taken place. All polymer coated insulation kits are shipped complete with form fitting insulation covers, silicone caulking, stainless steel strapping and joint tape (or heat shrink sleeves) to seal between the insulation kit and the pre-insulated pipe. Urecon insulation kits are economical, easy to install and have a proven record of dependability. In addition, they are ideally suited to traced systems as the THERMOCABLE® can be pulled in and placed, then the insulation kit installed.

Insulation kits with metal Spiwrap® cover also available.

Urecon Foam Kits®

Urecon Foam Kit®The Urecon Foam Kit® is a self contained, factory pressurized system designed to precisely meter, mix and dispense specially formulated chemical systems for ‘in the ditch’ production of urethane foam.
Urecon Foam kits are available in three sizes, each complete with all required chemical components, gun hose assembly, standard spray nozzles and instructions. All components are contained in specially waxed cartons, suitable for outdoor use. The Urecon Foam Kit® system may be applied at virtually any ambient temperature provided the kit itself has been heated to 24°C (75°F) prior to use. Kits may be kept in the truck cab, with the heater on between applications to ensure their proper operation in cold ambient temperatures.

All Urecon Foam Kit® materials have been formulated utilizing HCFCs rather than traditional CFCs. HCFCs are 20 times less hazardous to the earth’s ozone layer than CFCs. Kits are supplied with a gun-hose assembly and standard spray nozzles, packaged in sturdy cardboard containers. Spare or replacement parts may also be ordered separately (e.g. standard spray nozzles, gun-hose assemblies, etc.)

Available in the following sizes:

  • #15 - 2 ft³ (0.06 cu.m.)
  • #200 - 17 ft³ (0.48 cu.m.)
  • #600 - 50 ft³ (1.42 cu.m.)
